Grand Rapids teenager dies in two-car crash in Spencer Township

SPENCER TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A 15-year-old Grand Rapids boy is dead and two other teenagers are injured after a two-vehicle crash in Spencer Township.

That is in northeast Kent County. It happened at the intersection of Lincoln Lake Avenue and 17 Mile Road around 7:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Kent County Sheriff's deputies say a preliminary investigation reveals a 16-year-old boy from Gowen was driving a black Nissan Sentra northbound on Lincoln Lake. The Sentra's passengers included a 17-year-old boy from Greenville and a 15-year-old boy from Grand Rapids.

Police say the 16-year-old driver made a quick U-turn in the intersection. It collided with a black Infinity vehicle that had been traveling behind it. Police say the 15-year-old boy who died was a passenger in the car that made the U-turn. No one else was injured. Another passenger in the Sentra was a 17-year-old boy from Greenville.

A 26-year-old Holland woman was driving the Infinity.

The KCSO said in a news release that its Traffic Safety Unit is still investigating the crash.

"KCSO extends our deepest condolences to the family and all who are impacted by this accident," it added.
