Who would have thought when Claire Collins bid on a Fishing Trip with Laura during the 2019 Lend a Helping Can as a gift for her son, Joel, that we wouldn't be fishing until August 24th, 2021! Yesterday was finally the day! Joel and I met Mark and JP of the NH Fish and Game at the Lake Winnesquam Boat Launch and we set off. I reminded Joel several times that I have been doing this for a long time! Over 10 years of fishing with listeners and I always win! Joel had a lot of confidence because he has fished the Gulf for redfish. We started fishing and Joel started off HOT! I found myself down 4-0! Oh no, was I going to lose? I see some kids outside at a beautiful camp swimming and they holler to the boat, "how's the fishing?" I shout back, " I am getting beat! I haven't caught a fish and this guy has caught 4! I think I need a cheering squad!" They were awesome kids and started rooting me on, next thing you know I think I have a bite, but no I must be stuck in the weeds. I start to reel, wait, what, could it be a fish . . .it's a very heavy reel . . .I keep going and there's a bit of weight but not much of a fight coming from below. This Larry Largemouth was lethargic, the water is 80 degrees and it was humid! I got him on the boat and he was a great fish! After that I was hoping my luck turned around. I caught one more fish, rock bass and Joel caught another too! The count was 5-2 and we had to wrap it up for the day. I LOST! Joel was awesome and so personable! I had such a fun time and even though I lost I would fish with him any day! (But remember Joel, I beat you in size of fish!)
