The weekend was an absolute whirlwind.
We flew out to Indianapolis on Friday to attend the wedding of my sister Sharon's son Matt - who was marrying his lovely bride Ali at a gorgeous farm on the outskirts of the city. Flew out late Friday afternoon out of Logan (although I would have MUCH rather preferred Manchester Boston Regional Airport for a million reasons) - and it was a shit show. Crazy busy and everybody was cranky. And if Im honest- yours truly can be included in that catetory.
Ugh. Large crowd. Ticketing, security and TSA issues - man - it only served to remind me how much travelling can be a pain in the ass. Mind you - it isn't always like that! Matter of fact I've had really good luck flying, SO maybe I was due for a nightmare!! Haha- anyway- we finally got out to Indy and immediately dropped our stuff at the hotel and headed for the nearest sports bar to watch the Celtics. It was almost half time when we arrived at the bar the hotel desk clerk recommended - and as we were walking to the door, I noticed 2 police officers at the door.
I asked Valerie- "Are they wearing flak vests????" and she said "It looks like it!!!" - hahah - you don't normally see that in sports bars, do you?
Anyway we get to the door and we chat with the officers, AS THEY PATTED US DOWN AND CHECKED US FOR WEAPONS!
Ummmmm........okay!!!!
They were- to be clear - really nice (even when they found out we were cheering for the Celts! ha!)! But that's never happened to me before! So We go inside - and the place is EMPTY.
I mean EMP-FRIGGIN-TY!!!
So we grab a couple seats and order a couple beers! And it's immediately apparent that the place is more of a "club" than a sports bar. I ask the server - "So when does it get busy in here?" and she tells me "Oh about 1130p!". It was about 930pm - hahah!!!
So - we had our beers and watched a little of the game!! And as we did, we noticed one of the cops move a giant metal detector into place near the door - and I kind of chuckled!!
"We ain't in Kansas anymore, Toto"!!! Everybody there was really cool and we joked a bit about being the elderly white folks showing up for dinner at 3pm!! But the novelty of it wore off when the Celtics were behind by 40 points!!!! I looked at Valerie and said "I can't watch this s*** anymore" - and we split.
The next morning, we had some free time so we thought we'd continue our Brew Pub Tour and his spot #68 - The Guggman Haus Brewing Company!
WHAT A COOL PLACE! A brewery on one side, and a coffee bar on the other, with tables and awnings and umbrellas to sit under in between. It was loaded with families too! It was a great vibe, and a couple of my sisters and family showed up to hang! We had a blast!
Later it was wedding time-
Beautiful couple, ceremony, day, location - all of it. Really nice to see my nephew Matt Dutkowski marry his bride Ali!
And look! Valerie and I clean up real good! haha
Oh, and did I mention we had celebrity sighting too?
At Logan, we got checked in by Uncle Junior from The Sopranos!
Just goes to show ya- you never know who you'll meet when you travel!
Oh, and another thing- Friday night when we landed- in the airport in Indy (which is a REALLY NICE airport! I mean - REALLY NICE!), they have an Indiana Pacers Bar. You know, the team the Celtics beat to get to the NBA Finals??? And it was COMPLETELY EMPTY AT 8PM!!
Here I am LAUGHING at Pacers fans, IN THEIR OWN TOWN- and I have no idea that the Celtics are getting DEMOLISHED by the Mavs in Game 4!!! Hahah- Ugh.
We travelled home on Sunday - and got home about about 745p - so there wasn't much time for anything else this weekend-
I love to travel. But I DON'T love to travel. Does that make sense? I love going to new places. It's the getting there that agitates me sometimes....hahaha...
And the last pic of the trip - was in the Shuttle to our car -
Pretty sure she's on the phone trying to hire a contract killer to put a hit out on me.....hahaha.....
Great weekend, but like any trip anywhere.....it always ends the same: It s always good to get home.
Daisy was pretty glad to see us!
Hope you all had a good weekend-
