My Vacation: Nova Scotia, Hurricane Winds, Beer, and Hookers

So Valerie and I spent the entire week in Nova Scotia. I had never been before, and all I can say is two things:

  1. Nova Scotia is FRIGGIN HUGE. and
  2. Nova Scotia is BEAUTIFUL.

We drove up to Bar Harbor on Saturday morning and jumped on The CAT - the high speed ferry that takes you there in 3.5 hrs (car included). We went with our friends Jolene and Dave - and we had a GREAT time! We landed in Yarmouth, and spent each night in a different place as we went around almost the entire island- from Yarmouth to the top of Cape Breton's Highlands and National Park.

Yes - I took a ton of photos- which I'll share when I get the time to go through them. But I've got some pics I shot with my phone that I can share from the trip....

First- they have the best names for restaurants there....

And yes- you're damned right we stopped!! <grin>

The "chick" was actually pretty good- reminiscent of The Colonel Sanders "secret recipe", if you ask me! It was a little on the greasy side, which - to be honest, nobody likes in a chick. Am I right or am I right?

One of the places we hit up in the Highlands was "the Skyline Trail". It's a 6 mile loop on one of the highest points on the island. Gorgeous! And the fog that we had earlier in the day lifted just as we got close to the top. Pretty sweet view!

A couple of things that I learned about Canada and Canadians (keep in mind that I have Canadian heritage)

  1. There a NO police in Canada. Well, at least not on the road, anyway. We drove from the bottom to the top and back - about 800 miles, and saw 2 cop cars. And this whole "Kilometers" thing is just a mind screw. Im crankin at about 120 km per hour- and IM thinking Im haulin ass because Im a badass rule breaker. Then I realize- crap - I drive faster than this on Rt 101 every morning! I think the whole KM thing is just a sham to keep us driving slower!!!
  2. Canadians LOVE WHITE BREAD. I mean WTF am I, FIVE? White bread? What person over the age of 5 eats WHITE BREAD??? You got a restaurant up there and you get two choices: white or wheat? I mean, I can appreciate simple, but MAN! See the world folks! Try a rye or oatmeal, hell - I'll even go for pumper-friggin-nickel if I can get it instead of white bread!

I did get to get out with the camera before the others got up - and I'll give you a sneak of one place we went to - Hopewell Rocks, in New Brunswick on the Bay of Fundy

Hopewell Rocks are incredible rock formations amidst the highest tidal changes on the eastern seaboard (48-50 difference between high and low tide). At low tide, you can go out and walk around them - if you can stand the MUD! Holy crap - even the water is brown there! Still - it's beautiful!

And full disclosure: The place doesn't open till 8am, but I got clearance (kind of...haha) to walk down early and shoot the rise. It was absolutely stunning to see.

And up in Cheticamp, I saw a sign that made me happy.

I've always said- A person isnt defined by the job they have. They are defined by HOW they DO that job, and the pride they take in the work they do.

And that's why I want to give a shout out to these folks...

I don't know who "Lola" is - but I'm so happy that her....ummm....."employees" take pride in the work! WAY TO GO, LADIES!!!

Here's me, Jolene, Dave and Valerie doing touristy things out at Peggy's Cove. One of the many gorgeous spots we hit along the way.

(Tip: If you go there - go for sunrise, before anyone else gets there. Otherwise, it's wayyy to crowded. We went during the day and quickly left. I went back the next morning for sunrise and was gifted with being one of the few people there, and the sky and light I got from Mother Nature- was incredible).

Another thing about Canadians...

They're wicked nice. EVERYBODY was polite and friendly, and were happy to talk to ya.

And when we came back - I went to a "Farewell" get together at the Hackmatack Playhouse in Berwick ME. I had done a couple of summer theater plays there several years ago - and this year, after 50 years of putting on shows - Hackmatack called it a day, and is closing. It has been such an amazing place through the years, and I met some of the nicest people I know there, but I'll have more on that coming up this week.

It's late- but I've got videos to share later this week, so I gotta bail and go to bed.

I gotta see some of that Game of Thrones prequel that airs tonight (it started 12 minutes ago - F***!!!)

Good night- and I hope you all had a good week -

g

WAIT - I just realized i put "Hurricane Winds" in the title - and hadn't shared the image or story yet..

We had about a day or so of rain, and on one day - we got caught in it - pelting rain and hurricane force winds...

We were at a very historic fort - the Fortress De Louisbourg- a really cool place- and we got DRENCHED. I mean -

SOAKED. But you know what? YOU SOLDIER ON, BRUH.....NOTHING STOPS THE FORT TOUR, MY MAN!

I'll have a video of it for ya- but right now - you get the still.

This is me - with what USED TO BE an umbrella....

And don't knock the umbrella. I embrace it. You can make fun of it all you want- but on most occaisions (not THIS one, mind you), you'll be making fun of me...

But I'll be dry...

While the rain runs into your pants and drips off your nuts.

You won't be laughing then, sport..

So there's that...
