My Weekend: Family, Friends, Food, Snowstorms & Shooting (both kinds)

If I've said it once, I've said it a BILLION times - but every weekend should be a 3 day weekend.

Matter of fact- LETS MAKE IT FOUR!!!! haha

Hope you all had a good weekend and Thanksgiving! Mine was spent with our friends Dave and Jolene and their family up in Maine. Our families are very close, and all of our kids are best friends. We couldn't ask for me. We call it "Campsgiving" and it's a great time to relax, have a few drinks, play some games, go for hikes, and - oh yeah - EAT!

Here's the obligatory group shot -

The meal was great, and we played a game called "Freedom of Speech", its a good game for groups -

Also, being way up in Maine (the Stratton/Eustis) arena, we took the opportunity to set the sights on my sons new rifle. Pretty sweet Sig!

And the Thanksgiving table wasn't fancy, but it was perfect...

I don't need fine china and fancy stuff. Just give me a table surrounded by people I love, and I'll eat off a paper plate any day.

It snowed Friday night and Saturday and probably amounted to about 3-4 inches - but it was the slowly falling stuff, so it was pretty nice to hang out in. And of course, I had to get up and shoot (with the camera) on Saturday morning -

There's this giant plot of land with some very high pines, right near a place called 'The Pines Market", imagine that! Anyone who's been up that way knows where it is -

Those trees are gorgeous at any time of year, but especially in winter...

This short video will give you a better idea of what it's like -

Also had the 'rents over for Thanksgiving morning "big breakfast" (they were going to my brothers and we were headed to camp)

Ol' Con and Arn rolled in at 8am....

And lets be clear- tater tots for breakfast isn't something we do very often at all, but after we had it on this day.....I say - WHY THE HELL NOT?????

TOTS FOR BREAKFASTS, Y'ALL!

And speaking of breakfast, last week we had a discussion on the show about "camp life". When Laura goes "camping" - she brings every amenity possible. A keurig, big screen tv, margarita machine, and all kinds of stuff. I m not knocking it, but my version of "camp life" is simpler. For instance- an outhouse is not uncommon at places we end up, and yes, there is one at Dave and Jo's camp. Roadkill is disgusted by it and Laura isn't too fond of it either. But when you're out in the middle of nowhere- you do what you gotta do!!

And here's a pic ofAnd how you toast things at camp. Over the open flame of the gas stover.

Granted, it ain't an open fire- but s***, dude- I said I like "camp life", but Im NOT AN ANIMAL!!!

And lastly, it wouldn't be a weekend if I didn't get out and shoot, which I did on Thanksgiving morning (early). Here's one I got before sun up....
