My Weekend in 5: MOOSE! Road Trips, Dads Day, and Slow RV Drivers

ONE MORE DAY!!!! I need one more day to recover from this weekend!!! hahah -

Happy belated Fathers Day to all the Dads out there! We're doing a Dads Day dinner this week because Valerie was away on Sunday. SO - that meant a ROAD TRIP for me on Sunday!

After all the yard work on Saturday morning, I started out the weekend watching some US Open golf! (What a great finish, huh?)

Had my parents over for a Fathers Day dinner on Saturday since we wouldn't be around on Sunday. A massive amount of chinese food was destroyed as we celebrated my Dad- Arnie!

The ORIGINAL "AK". He ain't an AK 47 either- he's more like an AK-82!! haha-

And next - this is what I look like pumping gas after a 2:30a wake up so i could be in Errol NH just after sunrise-

Normally- on the day of a road trip - all the prep stuff is done ahead of time so I can just jump in the car and go. Got up to Errol just after 530a. The goal was just to go looking for wildlife- with some landscape photos thrown in for good measure.

Got lucky in Grafton Notch State Park when I saw this guy. He headed for the woods as soon as he spotted me- but moose have a weird habit: The ALWAYS stop and look back at me. ALWAYS. It's weird. It's like they're giving me one shot to get the photo - and ONE shot was all I got because he turned away quickly.

But I got it.

Gorgeous animal. And he's a young one, but he ain't small!! A little while later when I was walking in some muck along a pond- I saw this-

Thats a big ass moose print! It's more than half the size of my foot! For the most part, they're very docile animals - but always be respectful of them because you don't want to deal with a pissed off moose.

Here's one of the places I went - Screw Auger Falls in Grafton Notch State Park. A beautiful falls and the area around it is gorgeous to

From there it was up to Colebrook, and then Pittsburg. And if you're in Pittsburg - you do two things:

  1. You go as far as you can go - to the Canadian border. Which, by the way, is still closed. That's such bulls***, too. Open the damn border already. And the

second thing you do in Pittsburg - is go to the BUCK RUB PUB. Good food right on Rt 3. (I got the BLT. They put a ton of bacon in it, so that's a winner)

And last but not least- this is what I get stuck behind anytime I'm driving on Sunday. I've bitched about it before- RV's headed home on Sunday (sometimes pulling another vehicle behind it) that can't even go anywhere near the speed limit. I was behind this one for a while (along with a line of 12 cars behind me along Rt 3) and it always happens when there isn't a passing zone. Ugh. My solution to this is - RV'ers can't travel on Sunday. You can RV an extra day - and drive on Monday. That way - the working world isn't late getting home on Sunday because they had to follow you - doing 38 mph in a 55. Ugh. Hey - I don't mine RV's or folks that have em - they're cool! I just don't want be behind you when you're Driving Miss Daisy home!

So that was pretty much it -

And here's one more of a mom and baby moose I shot in Upton ME (right along the NH border). Check out the tag and collar on the Mom that Fish and Game put on her so they can learn about and keep track of them.

Hope you had a good weekend-

g
