Knotfest Mexico did not end according to plan on Sunday (December 1), after a stage barricade broke causing safety concerns. As a result, Slipknot and Evanescence's sets were canceled. Fans were understandably upset, but unfortunately some took their frustration out in a violent way — storming the stage and setting fire to Evanescence's instruments, which were already set up onstage. Both Slipknot and Evanescence issued statements following the night's chaotic end.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Slipknot were not able to perform at last night’s Knotfest. Security barricades became an issue, and it was decided that for the safety of the fans, neither Slipknot or special guests Evanescence could take the stage," the statement read. "We had hoped to be able to perform today, but regrettably, a situation arose onstage after the cancellation that damaged or destroyed gear that would have been necessary to play. We are extremely disappointed that we did not get the chance to perform, but the safety of our fans and our community is our biggest priority. We will look to get back to Mexico sometime in the future.”

After posting an apology video last night, Evanescence shared a message on Facebook defending their Mexican fanbase. "Even though we are devastated by the destruction of our instruments and gear, we do not see the violent end to last night as a representation of our Mexican fans, or the Mexican people," they wrote. "50,000 people were there, and sadly a handful of them turned to anger and violence after the cancellation. You have shown us an incredible amount of love from the very beginning, and we will always come back for you."
