BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Boston Globe NFL reporter Ben Volin is back this week to talk Patriots headlines with Adam Kaufman for this week's Red Zone report ahead of a match-up with the Detroit Lions.

The big story this week--Josh Gordon is a Patriot. Volin was in favor of the trade, and said he will work out well in New England if his off-field issues don't return.

"He still definitely has it, physically," Volin said. "The big question is, can he keep it together off the field? And nobody can answer that. He had many well-documented issues while he was in Cleveland with substance abuse, driving while impaired, he had to go to rehab--so this guy has definitely some significant issues here, and can the Patriots keep him on the straight and narrow? Can they keep him available and dependable? That's never been his forte, but if they can, this guy is a tremendous physical freak, and the Patriots have never quite had a wide receiver like this guy."

In other news, a new book from Ian O'Connor alleges that Patriots QB Tom Brady was considering not playing for head coach Bill Belichick this season. There's not much new here, but Volin said the news only supports the notion that there is tension behind the scenes.

"It's certainly further confirmation that things are not all well in Foxboro, and that even though there seems to be a detente now, a cease fire, the issues still haven't been solved," Volin said. "I think we might be going through some of this again next off-season, and I definitely think we'll be going through this in the 2020 offseason when Brady's contract runs out, and we'll see if he wants to keep playing and what the Patriots want to do there."

Kaufman and Volin also discussed the return of cornerback Cyrus Jones to the team, what to expect from Sony Michel, Volin's predictions for Sunday's game, and more.
